Bio
Federico Marzio Vitetta is an Italian filmmaker who works internationally and is currently based in Los Angeles. His work with Girl Skateboards and Lakai Limited Footwear is widely known, providing over a decade of innovative concepts that embody the spirit of skate culture. Ever since taking the helm, as creative director of Girl Films, Federico continues to evolve his creative approach to filmmaking by bringing a fresh vision to his work.
Highlights of Federico’s previous work include Fully Flared, a skateboard film featuring the Lakai team filmed over a four-year period; Lakai Limited Footwear: 2010 Video Compilation, a special DVD collection featuring Lakai's entire 2010 online video catalog; and Pretty Sweet, an epic tale of two feuding skateboard gangs, featuring skaters from the Girl and Chocolate teams.
One of his most adventurous projects to date is Croisière avec GIRL, a video art installation piece, designed to take the museum visitors in Paris to the streets of LA. Using eight projectors to mimic a seamless 360° surround experience, four separate movie files played in sync and projected in the Grand Salle of La Gaîté Lyrique museum at the acclaimed Public Domaine exhibition.
Federico directed commercial campaigns for Nike and Converse and won Best Commercial in International Skateboard Film Festival for Lakai: Venice to Venice with Guy Mariano.
Following up, Federico released Wet Dream, a groundbreaking 4K film, with Executive Producer Spike Jonze. Wet Dream combines visual effects, daring stunts, underwater photography and a shockingly bold visual style. It is an ode to all things Federico loves about skateboarding.
Most recently, Girl Films released The Flare, a full length skateboard film Federico directed over the course of four years with the skate team all over the world; after it’s wildly popular theatrical premiere in North America, it became the top grossing sports film on Apple iTunes in its first weeks of release on VOD and continues it’s life on streaming platforms.
While Federico will always enjoy directing commercials and films for the skateboard community, in recent times he has begun to branch out into commercials, narrative film, music videos, branded content and installation pieces.
